A Simple Pleasure

While doing my Sunday post-brunch clean up
I moved my dishwashing soap bottle and
noticed how lovely it was.
Sun streaming through the window and through
the green glass and then again,
through the clear blue soap.
This was my first Martha Stewart project,
first appearing in the April/May 1993
edition of her Living magazine.
This simple change to my countertop
has traveled with me all these years.
Proof that a simple pleasure is worth keeping.

The bottle didn't cost more than $10.00.
Stopped using the spout but now in retrospect,
I may return to using it to reduce over-pour.
Just fill with your favorite soap,
is the only one for this tree-hugger.
Biodegradable and Dawn Saves Wildlife.

Just a simple change can add to a dull corner.

Crab Cakes with Remoulade

A fabulous summer recipe that is really a quick cook.
I halved the recipe as I was only cooking for the two of us.

here are ingredients mis-en-plas
picked up the
Chicken of the Sea Jumbo Lump Crab Meat
at my favorite store, Trader Joe's
but should you not have one nearby,
I am sure you can find it in refrigerated meat section
of your local market.

make the remoulade first so it has time for
flavors to meet and greet.

finely diced green pepper
and green onion

drain the crab and add to veggies

mix in mayo, pepper, and egg

divide into four patties
dredge in bread crumbs

Sauté in vegetable oil for 3 minutes

flip and cook another 3 minutes
transfer to plate
(if making full recipe, put plate on warmer)

Here is my adaptation ...

Remoulade
Ingredients
1/4 Cup Mayo
2 tsp shallots, minced
1 tsp fresh parsley
1 1/2 tsp Dijon mustard
3/4 tsp capers, chopped
1/4 tsp ground pepper

Crab Cake
Ingredients
1/2 lb jumbo lump crab meat, drained
1 tbs green pepper, finely chopped
1 tsp mayo
freshly ground black pepper, you know what you like
1/2 of a lightly beaten egg
1 cup bread crumbs
canola oil

Sunday mornings are big breakfast mornings.
most Sundays are traditional eggs, bacon/sausage,
potatoes, toast and juice.
with summer officially arriving,
we also enjoy a good ol' BLT.
so while mr. moonlight had a
traditional BLT
I had this delish salad.
two thumbs up!!

Bath Stenciling -

Inspired by
I decided to go a little animal in my little bath.
Below are Before...
plain
white
 and boring

now months later and not yet complete
definitely the start of something
much better than Before.

Cheetah Leopard Allover Stencil
in Beetle Black
both Martha Stewart products
purchased at Michaels.
All making application easy.

In the end, I am with Cindy on the stenciling,
haven't done it in 20 years and
it was easier 20 years ago.
But then just about everything was easier
20 years ago! Ha!

Just need to finish a couple of walls and
fill in corners / touch up.
I would like to change out the blinds
for a matchstick shade.
What do you think?

I have a self imposed rule that I must finish this project
before repainting the front entry door,
touch up the kitchen cabinets,
redo kitchen counter tops,
paint the entry chest,
paint the queen bed,
paint the lamps & curtain rods,
paint the cinder-block half wall in the garden,
paint dining chairs,
paint coffee table,
redo bath counter tops,
frame bathroom mirrors,
paint shower enclosure,
my list is long and keeps growing.
Love this new look and
I smile every time I walk in.

Here are this week's crushes....

This visit is a treasure.
flowers rule in this lovely oasis in Wiltshire.
The gnarled wisteria to greet you at the front door.
Oh to dine on that patio among the flowers
and humming bees.
Ah, South California is a long way from
Wiltshire......

Yvonne is at it again -
her drop dead kitchen is freshened up
with just a little change here and there.
But over a hundred peonies?
I have just fainted.....
